Becoming is a visual map of moving out of the heavy, layered “underground” of the past and into a life filled with breath and light.
The bottom of the painting holds the dense, textured parts of the journey, the places where you dig, where you sort through what’s good and what’s hard, where your strength and your roots were formed.
As the eye moves upward, the painting opens. The soft, glowing space isn’t empty; it’s a breath. It’s the moment you slow down long enough to see the beauty around you and realize that a peaceful, beautiful life isn’t something you have to earn, it’s something you’re allowed to have.
There’s also a quiet thread of something that’s been guiding me lately the reminder to look toward the warmth of a sunset, to trust softness, and to rise into color and light even after moving through the darker layers. That feeling found its way into this piece too.
This painting was created after a mediumship reading that opened something deep in me, a moment where I connected with my brother, heard truths about my family, and was told that I am a witch here to bring the magic back into my lineage.
I was told my art has purpose, that my emotions are gifts, that I am clairaudient and clairsentient, and that I feel energy in a way that is meant to guide me.
Some of what came through was beautiful, like my grandmother calling me “my beautiful sweet girl” and telling me she was proud of me. Some of it was painful, especially the messages about my brother. This painting became the place where I processed all of it.
I created it while meditating with labradorite, trying to harness its energy, the transformation, the intuition, the inner fire. At first, the painting felt like a crystal, full of fractures and light. Now, when I look at it, I see an aerial view of the ocean, turquoise water, movement, depth, and the emotional landscape that feels so connected to me as a Cancer.
The straight lines and the copper flecks are the presence of spirit, the guides who stepped in, the messages that came through, the spark of something bigger moving inside the work.
This was the first piece where I truly felt myself channeling.
Not just painting.
Not just feeling.
But listening.
It holds crystal energy.
It holds ocean energy.
It holds spirit energy.

Crystal Energy - Sunstone
This was the first piece I ever created for someone else, not from my own energy, but by channeling theirs. It was one of the most profound experiences of my life. I painted this while listening, feeling, and allowing spirit to guide me through what needed to be expressed for her.
I won’t share the details of her story, they aren’t mine to tell, but I will say this, I felt her loved ones, her guides, and her energy moving through me as I worked. The lines, the textures, the colors, and the copper sparkles all arrived with a clarity that didn’t feel like my own.
This piece taught me that my art can hold space for others.
It showed me that I can channel for someone I love.
It confirmed that the gifts I’ve been told I carry, intuition, clairsentience, clairaudience, and ancestral connections are real.
This painting is a transmission.
A blessing.
A mirror.
A moment of deep listening.

This piece came from a season where I was exploring new techniques and pushing myself outside my usual style. I followed a guided tutorial and let myself experiment with movement, texture, and structure in a way that felt different from my intuitive process.
This painting isn’t tied to a specific emotion or moment — it’s part of my growth as an artist, a reminder that learning, trying, and playing are just as important as the pieces that come from deeper places.

This piece was created during a time when I was trying to break free from years of heaviness, the pandemic, the tension in the world, the grief, the fear, the sadness that had settled into my body.
I remember wanting to paint something that felt like hope again. Something that felt like joy, even if I had to reach for it.
As I layered yellows, oranges, pinks, and soft blues, it felt like I was physically moving light over darkness, not covering it up, but pushing through it. Letting color take up space again. Letting myself feel something brighter.
This painting is me choosing joy before I fully felt it. It’s the moment I started to come back to myself.

This piece was created after two emotionally heavy paintings, when I felt myself needing something bright, alive, and full of movement. I reached for purple, a color that has always felt powerful and joyful to me, and let it take over in a way that reminded me of Prince, stained‑glass windows, and the way color can shift the energy in a room.
This painting is joy and motion and release. It’s the moment I let myself breathe again.
Like all my pieces, it holds a hidden gold heart - a quiet reminder of love and softness woven into the work.

This piece came from a time when the world felt heavy with racial tension, and my son was beginning to feel the weight of things I could never fully understand. I couldn’t know his experience, but imagining what he must’ve been carrying lived in my body in a way I still remember.
As a white mother raising Black children, there’s a deep ache that comes from knowing your kids will be judged before they’re known.
The black and white in this painting represent Black and white people, and the purple and blue underneath are the part of me that still hopes - the glimpse of what we could be if we truly loved each other.
This piece is part pain, part fear… and part hope.
Racism = Pain

Some pieces come from curiosity or play, and some come from the moments that break you open.
This painting was one of my first processing pieces. I made it after George Floyd was murdered here in my home of Minnesota.
I remember feeling this deep, aching sadness, the kind that sits in your chest and doesn’t move.
My husband is Black. My children are Black. My heart is woven into a community that has lived with the reality of racism long before it was caught on camera. Seeing that moment so clearly, so publicly, was horrifying.
I didn’t have language for the grief or the fear or the truth of it, so I let the paint hold it for me.
This piece is what my heart looked like while I was trying to make sense of something that should never have happened.

This was the first abstract painting I ever created completely on my own.
No guide. No instructions. Just me, color, texture, and curiosity. I didn’t know what I was doing, I just wanted to see what would happen if I trusted my hands.
Looking back, I can see the beginning of the techniques I still use today… the layered textures, the rich color, the movement, the way I fill the canvas with energy instead of empty space.
It’s funny, I wasn’t trying to paint anything specific, but it ended up looking like a city to me. Alive, bright, full of motion.
This piece was the moment I realized I could create something from nothing - the moment I started becoming the artist I am now.

This was the first abstract painting I ever made in a guided class — 1•18•21
I remember standing there stunned that my hands created this. Something shifted in me that day.
This was the moment I stopped just “following steps” and started listening to myself.
If you look closely, you’ll see the beginning of something that’s now a signature in my work - tiny gold affirmation words woven into the layers.
I am… kind. love. fearless. peace. enough. strong.
This was the birth of my meaningful art. The first time I realized painting could be healing, grounding, and deeply personal.
This piece still hangs in my living room, a reminder of where it all began.
